Technology Available

The TMC Library provides an array of technologies to serve you. Although the technology services are provided at no additional cost, use is governed by the Library's Acceptable Use Policy.

Technologies provided include:

  1. Classroom with an overhead LCD projector and 25 workstations
  2. Fully-configured computer lab with 27 workstations
  3. Research and browsing lab with 27 workstations
  4. All of these services have connectivity to the Internet as well as to the national high-speed research network backbones.

Wireless Internet Access in the TMC Library

In addition to Library provided computers, a wireless network is available for all patrons to use. Ubiquitous wireless connectivity is available using 802.11 a/b/g capable devices. To connect, use your computer's "Browse for available networks" application and find the strongest signal with the site ID (SSID) = HAMTMCL. When prompted for a password, type "THETMCLIBRARY."

Hardware

The hardware in the classrooms and labs are kept up to date on a three year technology refresh cycle. The current minimum configuration:

  1. Dell® Optiplex Gx620 with Intel Dual core Pentiums clocked at 3.06 GHz
  2. 1GB of RAM
  3. Combination DVD- ROM /CD burner
  4. 20-inch LCD monitors

Several systems in the labs are configured with 64-bit Microsoft Vista Enterprise and Office 2007.

Operating Systems

The OS for all of The TMC Library's public computers is Microsoft® Windows XP. For the protection of our users' privacy and to enhance the stability and integrity of the systems, they are also protected with DeepFreeze and are rebooted to a clean, known state nightly.

Software

In the Classroom and Computer Labs, workstations are loaded with the Microsoft® Office 2003 Professional Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Publisher, and InfoPath). Visio and Project are available upon request. SiteFinder and EndNote are also available on the classroom computers for training purposes.

The latest Web browsing software from Microsoft® and Mozilla® are loaded on these computers.

Each system is also protected by Symantec® Enterprise 10.0 Anti-virus solution.

Quick Facts

Over 150,000 patrons passed through our gates in 2009-2010.

We currently hold over 351,000 book and journal volumes for use.

Patrons have access to over 7100 electronic full-text journals.

InterLibrary Loans lent over 11,800 books, articles, or journals in 2009-2010.

The TMC Library held over 120 classes, with over 2600 attendees in 2009-2010.
