It is also a rich research source, with a powerful search engine, easy access to full–text, and additional features such as direct export of search results to EndNote and Reference Manager databases. For those "on-the-go", the latest news and research article abstracts can be downloaded to your PDA through the AvantGo service. For more information and to register, go to:

The National Library of Medicine announced the addition of
older citations (1953-1965) to the MEDLINE database. OLDMEDLINE consists of
over 1.5 million citations to articles published in international
biomedical journals in the fields of medicine, preclinical sciences and
allied sciences. These citations were originally published in the hardcopy
of Index Medicus. For more information on how to search for these citations
in MEDLINE go to:

A new database Genetics Home Reference from the National
Library of Medicine focuses on genetic conditions and the genes responsible
for these conditions.
This database offers information on 84 genetic conditions and 75 genes. The information is oriented to patients and families with relatives who may have a genetic disease. The database includes an introduction to genetic conditions and genes summaries, a section called Help me Understand Genetics, that provides basic information on genes and how they work. Additional sections include information on genetic disorders, genetics consultation and where to find a genetics professional in your area. Genetic testing and gene therapy information is also provided. A glossary of terms to help you understand the terminology of diseases and genetics as well as links to different genetic, patient, and educational resources are included. You can search this database by disease or condition. If you are not sure of the name of the disease, you have the option to browse conditions by name or category (i.e. bones, brain, cancer) or browsing genes, by symbol, full name or category (biological process, cellular component, molecular function).
