Library Online Catalog Unavailable on February 10.
The HAM-TMC Library’s online catalog will be down all day on February 10, for a system upgrade. We expect the upgrade to be a smooth process, and to have the catalog back up before the end of the week. If you have access to the proxy server you can check WorldCat at:
http://hhw.library.tmc.edu/eresources/eresources.html?level=.5&resource=2&alpha=+W+&jname to find out if the Library owns a particular book.
Call the Information Services desk at: (713) 799-7161 or (713) 799-7162 for questions regarding title availability. Please note that status of books checked out, or items gone to the bindery will not be available.
Fines will not accumulate for that day only. For information on fines call the Circulation department at (713) 799-7147.
Library Final Journal Cancellation List.
The 2004 Journal Cancellation List has been finalized. Faculty input made it possible for us to reduce the impact of these cuts on educational and research needs.
We did not cut as many titles as originally planned and we attempted to retain those titles faculty indicated were critical to educational and research activities. Many thanks to all who let us know about their specific information needs. We learned a lot through this process.
Send any comments or concerns regarding the cancellations to Leah Krevit, M.L.I.S., Associate Director of Collections Management, lkrevit@library.tmc.edu, 713.799-7126.
A complete list of cancelled journal can be found at:

Friends of the Texas Medical Center Library Donate $ 30,000 to the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service.
This gift will be divided into two $15,000
allocations: one for the year 2004 and the second $15,000 for the year 2005.
The Friends’ generous gift will be especially valuable for supplementing and
supporting the Jesse H. Jones Community Health Information Service’s health
kiosk program. Immediate plans are to purchase more electronic consumer health
information kiosks, and to hire translation services for the multilingual kiosk
brochures. Funds will also support library participation at local health fairs
and the promotion and marketing of consumer health services in the Library.
For more information, please contact Adela V.

Osler’s
Web Adds a New Title.
Osler’s Web is an electronic resource for the
full text of books and articles written by Sir William Osler (1849-1919). The
McGovern Center has added a fifth title to its collection: "The Principles
and Practice of Medicine", 4th edition. The first edition will be
available in a few weeks. Three bound volumes of original papers
will be available later this year.
