Anyone who comes to the HAM-TMC Library is welcome to use the books, journals, and other information resources of the Library. However, a HAM-TMC Library card is required to borrow materials. To obtain a card, download and complete the library card application, print it out, and then submit it at the Library Circulation desk. Be sure to bring identification verifying eligibility. (Viewing the application form requires Acrobat Reader).
In general, faculty, students and staff from Participating and Supporting Institutions of the Houston Academy of Medicine - Texas Medical Center Library, as well as members of the Harris County Medical Society are eligible for free HAM-TMC Library cards. TexShare
- A Texas Library Resource Sharing Program
Created by the 73rd Texas Legislature, the goal of the TexShare Consortium
is to "increase the intellectual productivity of students and faculty
by sharing access to vast amounts of information available in the state,
but not owned by local libraries." With 53 public university and health
science center members and $1 million in funds trusteed to the Texas
Higher Education Coordinating Board, the TexShare Consortium has formidable
collective buying power and achieves great economies of scale. As an
active TexShare member, the HAM-TMC Library can provide its clientele
with free access to business and general periodical databases with 750
publications included in a fulltext format. The TexShare
Library Card Program is a significant step toward a statewide library
card system. For more information, inquire at the Circulation Desk 713.799.7147.
