The Texas Medical Center Women’s History Project will hold a reception on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm at the Texas Medical Center (TMC) Library, to recognize women during Women’s History Month who have made contributions to the development of the Texas Medical Center (TMC). The event is free and open to the public.

The Texas Medical Center Women’s History Project has completed the first installment of oral history interviews with women who have contributed to the development of the TMC.

The goal of the project is to preserve these historical materials at the TMC Library’s Archives to make them available to researchers.

The first five interviewees are:

• Dorothy Otto, MSN, EdD, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Nursing
• Dianna Milewicz, MD, PhD, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) Medical School
• Lu Ann Aday, PhD, The University of Texas School Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health
• Anna Steinberger, PhD, UTHealth Medical School
• Julane Hotchkiss Knobil, PhD, UTHealth Medical School

This year’s collection of oral histories for the TMC Women’s History Project is sponsored by private donations, the Faculty Wives & Women Faculty of the UTHealth Medical School, PARTNERS at the UTHealth School of Nursing, and the TMC Library.

There is a significant delay in the publication of the print and online versions of the Journal of Cell Science, due to the increase in articles published (30% more volume) and some technical difficulties that have created delays in the journal's publishing schedule.

The publisher is working on bringing the journal back to schedule.

The TMC Library is hosting a free Shakespeare event on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at The Texas Medical Center Library. 

The Shepherd School Crumhorn Collective musical ensemble will delight the audience with a musical performance of Renaissance wind music and an introduction of the unique musical instruments used during medieval times. Additionally, The Barony of Stargate, a local chapter of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA) will be on-site with a display of medieval weapons and clothing from that time period.

The event is free and open to the public.

This weekend, between 9:00 p.m. Central time Saturday, March 9 and 3:00 a.m. Sunday, March 10, ProQuest will be performing an upgrade lasting approximately six hours. During that time access to Nursing & Allied Health Source and any other databases on the ProQuest platform will be unavailable.
