Friends of the TMC Library

Information on how to become a Member of the Friends of The TMC Library.

The mission of The Friends of The Texas Medical Center (TMC) Library is to support and promote The TMC Library.

The Friends’ goals are to:

  • Increase public awareness and use of the Library,
  • Support the Library’s development and delivery of biomedical information,
  • Raise funds for the Library,
  • Serve in an advisory capacity to the Library.

The TMC Library is a premier leader in the delivery and development of biomedical information to the Texas Medical Center, Houston, Texas and the nation. The Library was founded in 1949 to serve the physicians in Harris County, Texas. In addition to making biomedical information available to area healthcare professionals and consumers, the Library serves the students, faculty, researchers and staff of Baylor College Medicine, UTHealth and 47 other institutions in the Texas Medical Center. As the Regional Medical Library for the National Network of Libraries of Medicine, South Central Region, The TMC Library provides information to medical professionals and consumers in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

Individuals, medical associations and societies, hospitals, corporations, and foundations are invited to become members of the Friends, a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since 2006, the Friends have provided $50,000 for books and journals in the Library’s collection, $30,000 for public health information, $4,000 for lectures, and $25,000 for staff development.
